From the hills of Todmorden, West Yorkshire, FYNN returns with Icarus Waltz, a striking new release that’s as raw as it is poetic. It’s an acoustic waltz, but don’t expect anything soft or sleepy. This one’s got some character and bite!

The track spins a tale of social anxiety and the seductive pull of temptation, inspired by the Aussie horror flick Talk to Me. The verses shift between panicked inner thoughts and a voice that tempts and torments – a proper tug-of-war in the mind. One line that sticks:
“…forever you can’t kick us. You can try, but we’ll never let you go.”
It’s dark, honest, and hits like a punch to the gut.
FYNN’s voice is very distinctive – part spoken word, part melodic, with flashes of near-rap delivery that give the track its edge. Think Jamie T meets Ren, with a bit of The Streets swagger and The Undercover Hippy’s lyrical sharpness. The acoustic guitar keeps things grounded, while the waltz rhythm adds a hypnotic swing. It’s not your usual 3/4 – it’s tense, twitchy, and just full of character.
Produced by FYNN himself and mixed by Adam Gorman at Pinhole Sound Studio, the track features Nick Vaal on drums, Joseph Fountain on accordion, and some eerie adlibs from Steve Jones that echo the song’s ghostly themes. The production quality is very good.

The music video is a DIY triumph. After a director dropped out last minute, FYNN holed up for three days and made it himself. Lyrics flash across the screen, matching the vocal delivery – part performance, part confession. It’s lo-fi, but it works. Watch it here

Fancy hearing it live? Head to the Golden Lion in Todmorden on 30th October for the release party. It’s free entry, and you’ll get the full experience – voice, vibe, and a bit of local soul.
